[A*UG] Call Monitoring

Hello Andy,

The feature your are looking for is called "Call Monitoring" or "Silent
Monitoring" in call center terms.

In asterisk, that features is enabled by the Asterisk command ChanSpy. It
basically allows any extension in a context to silently monitor another
extension, given the person knows the password for it.

To give that feature to your supervisor, for instance, you need to add this
command to the dial plan, properly setting it into the context you want it
to work in.

Here it is:

Single channel spying
---------------------

As an example if a manager/supervisor wants to monitor extension 234 they
would do this:

1) From their IP Phone, dial 0234 (Remember to always put 0 before the
extension you want to monitor)
2) When prompted enter the PIN + # (Your PIN is 9999#)
3) Monitor the extension as long as they want
4) Hang-up
5) Go back to step 1) to monitor a different extension

Put this in the dial plan in the [internal for instance] context and reload.
************************************************************************
exten = _0XXX,1,Answer
exten = _0XXX,2,Authenticate(9999)
exten = _0XXX,3,ChanSpy(SIP/${EXTEN:1}|qv(4))
exten = _0XXX,4,Hangup

I hope it helps.

Good morning, everyone!

I'm interested in setting up our Asterisk to allow one extension to
listen in on another extension (muted). We have a new employee and
I'd like him to shadow other folks on the phone. The idea is to let
him listen in on conversations other support personnel are having
while he is at his desk. Can anyone tell me the official name for
this feature, point me to a resource for configuration, or tell me
how to do it?

Thanks!!

Andy
